The Detroit Music Institute was a short lived establishment that was pivotal in the development of Techno, created by George Baker, Alton Miller and Alan Ester, it opened in 1988 and closed in 1990.   It's midnight to 9 am sessions saw Derrick May cutting between Reel To Reels and 1200's seamlessly,  playing tracks that were made that day and his soon to become classics- Nude Photo, Strings of Life,  The Dance...., Juan Atkins and Mike Huckaby, Chez Damier,  Alton Miller, Kevin Saunderson and D-Wynn were also present in the booth.

The last tune played there was- "Pacific State"  by 808 State.
